Thieving Overview

Pickpocketing
To begin Thieving all you need is you! At level one, simply head to an area in the game where you can find a man or woman.
If you right-click on your selected person, you will be presented with a submenu of which the option 'Pickpocket' is available.
Stealing can make people angry. Selecting this option will have your character pickpocket the NPC in question. If you are successful, you will receive some loot from that person. If you are unsuccessful, you will be temporarily stunned and be unable to move for a short period of time.
Stealing from stalls
Guards will try to protect stalls if your life of crime needs a little change, why not try stealing from the stalls. Doing this will grant not only experience in your Thieving skill, but also some nice items, once you get good at it.
As with pickpocketing, you can be successful and receive your loot or you can be unsuccessful and attract the attention of nearby guards:
It is worth noting that if you wish to continually loot stalls, then positioning has to be considered. If you are within sight of the owner, they will call for help and you will be unable to steal. Similarly, if you are standing in such a position where the guards are not near, then you save yourself from being attacked.
More Thieving
On top of Thieving from stalls and people in RuneScape, you can even try picking locks to gain access to chests. Beware, though: some are trapped - make sure you right-click and 'search for traps' where necessary.
Doors - Picking locks
To pick locks, simply find a door that is locked, and from the submenu select 'Pick lock'. Note, some locks will require a lock pick to gain access. Using a lock pick on any door will greatly increase the chance of opening it. Lock picks are obtainable by stealing from rogues in the Wilderness, or buying them from the Rogues' Den shop.
Thieving from chests
Around the RuneScape world, there are certain chests in which treasure is stored. If you are lucky enough to find one, you can use your Thieving skill to crack it open and take the reward. Just remember that you will not always be successful when using your Thieving skill.
Pyramid Plunder
Deep in the southern reaches of the Kharidian Desert is the city of Sophanem, home to a pair of magnificent pyramids. The pyramid of Jalsavrah has recently been opened to the Thieving public for them to test their mettle against the traps and dangers set in place by the pyramid's guardian mummy.
Sorceress's Garden
Osman, spymaster and thief, has Thieving experience to impart to those who can get him some tasty sq'irks. Juicy, particularly if ripe, these sq'irks can only be obtained from the garden of the Sorceress who lives south-east of Al-Kharid.
Blackjacks – Lure and Knockout
During The Feud, adventurers can learn a new method of Thieving - a method whereby they will take minimal damage and not get caught. You can get your hands on a blackjack during the quest, the Rogue Trader minigame, or by buying one from the trader near the kebab shop.
Right-clicking with a blackjack wielded gives the option 'Lure'. If you lure your target away from prying eyes, you should then go ahead and 'Knock out' the target, leaving a safe pickpocket with no chance of taking damage. Thieving from the people shown in the table below does not require a blackjack, but if you lure them and successfully knock them out, your pickpocketing success will be guaranteed. You will not be able to knock someone out if you do not have the Thieving level required to pickpocket them.
