Did You Get Presents?

Did you get presents? Christmas is coming, wanna get something? First, from jessE, we can see a beautiful bento box. A "bento" or "bento box" is a prepared meal in Japanese culture consisting of rice, some kind of meat (often sushi), and cooked vegetables. The big image above is a Murloc bento, put together by a WoW fan with some excellent culinary taste. The Murloc itself is made of cabbage, dyed tofu, and red and yellow pepper stripes, the hut to his left is made of Thai turkey meatballs and steamed cabbage, and the treasure chest is made of tofu and seaweed, while the sun and flowers are eggs.

Very interesting. It's still a work-in-progress apparently (though considering that it's all food, it can't take too long to make, can it?), as the creator still wants to get teeth on the Murloc. But it looks pretty ready to eat as is -- the hut and the treasure chest, especially, look pretty delectable.

Presents? Winter Veil is here. The cities are decorated, snowballs are flying, and everyone will be waking up early in a few days to see what Great Father Winter has left under the Christmas tree. We recognize the holidays as a time to share with family and friends. Outside of services, parties, and shopping you're probably still spending a considerable amount of time with your cohorts online. I'd like to know if anyone is planning on sending gifts to their guildies and other WoW buddies. It's unnecessary but still thoughtful to recognize these folks we spend so much time with. I think it might be fun, but I'm not sure what to get.

Sending gold sounds kind of lame. WoW Gold is flowing pretty freely, so most folks probably either don't need it, or need more of it than I can comfortably afford to give. Perhaps I could send an adorable mini-pet, a nice bottle of wine or a lovely floral arrangement. I could go practical and send a stack of materials for their trade skills or something useful that I've crafted for them. Perhaps I could send a special holiday greeting through in game mail.

One of the friends said: “My roommate, a dwarf priest, got a haircut so he looked like Santa Claus and put on the winter set. He wrapped up 30 presents, ranging from cheap tailored shirts all the way up to an Orb of Deception. We hosted a little party in Shat (where the lag wouldn't be so bad) and he gave out 10 or so. We had a lot of fun just screwing around with little trinkets and such. He spent the rest of the evening flying around Northrend, hunting down other guildies on his reindeer mount and giving them presents.”

How about you? I actually scheduled a Secret Santa event for my guildies. Out of about 35 raiders and 10 active non-raiding members, I had an amazing turnout of 29 sign-ups! I had them each send me a wish-list, which I then organized and mailed to their Secret Santa. Wishes ranged from Titanium Bars to Orbs of Deception to AH Gift Cards. I then had the Secret Santas go get the gifts and mail them back to me. The generosity of my guildies makes me so happy. People gave until they couldn't give anymore, and not a single person flaked out on their obligation.
