Some of you might be planning to visit Alterac Valley for the first time, others might think that they are experienced, however, most of people can use soma basic advice, we will begin with the most basic things to remember and we will finish where you will have a chance to do something useful.
Unlike the other battlegrounds, Alterac Valley has many quests and objectives that can give you reputations and other rewards, yet it has s single main objective, you can complete to win. There is a difference in effective tactics between Horde and Alliance. If you expect to lose you can use yet another tactics to get out the most of the lost game.
To some extent the object of Alterac Valley is to destroy the enemy NPC general while reducing the enemy's resources. There are two ways to play this battleground, on either offence or defense.
If you play offence, you want to take as many enemy graveyards and towers as possible on the way to the enemy's base. First, take the Stormpike graveyard (Alliance) or Frostwolf graveyard (Horde). Then, take the two towers and the two relief huts. Killing Captain Galvangar (Horde) or Balinda Stonehearth (Alliance) in the towers will give your team extra honor and will take a buff off the opposing general, making it easier to kill. Last, the offense needs to kill the opposing team's general boss, either General Drek'Thar (Horde) or Vanndar Stormpike (Alliance). To kill the general, the offence needs to have a tank keep the boss busy while the rest of the team uses DPS to take him down.
The defense team needs to group up around the towers or in the tower their general is in. Alliance defense should set up on the bridge on the Alliance side, or with their leader. The Horde needs to set up on the gate between their two towers or with their leader. The objective is to keep the other team from capping their towers or relief huts. Defense needs to use their battleground trinkets, either the Frostwolf Insignia or the Stormpike Insignia, that has a recall ability to return to their general's base, when needed. This is easier and faster than riding to the base. If the relief huts fall, then the defense needs to retreat to their leader's tower and provide protection to him so that the offensive team has time to kill the opposing leader or to deplete the opposing team's resources. When the leader is dead or the other team's resources have reached zero, the team wins.
As you can see from the above, you should focus on getting to the PvE stage of battle quickly, the Horde has better abilities, better equipment, better chances to win any direct fights, but when it comes to who can kill a boss faster, Paladins can make a difference. If they are played very well. it can make huge difference. To begin with, judgement for different ranks of same seal seems to stack and it can help with both mana and healing. Then, it is easier to tank the general when your DPS classes have blessing of Salvation. The rest of the seals and auras are easy to explain. It's just as easy to explain why Shaman can help PvP part of battles.
If you are playing Alterac Valley in the right way, you'll be in combat almost all the time and are sure to encounter better geared opponents or opponents who are using consumables.
